Mother Earth's Wisdom through Herbs......

I'd like to start this blog page with a little mental field trip that I think will bring you to a place of openness to deeply connect with our Earth's wisdom......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In your minds eye step into this beautiful garden, allow yourself a moment to pause, take in a few beep, full breaths. Take a seat on the freshly cut grass, kick off your shoes & take it all in. Use as many senses as you can... the wonderful smells of the flowers, herbs, trees, grass etc.... Take notice of the shapes of the leaves, petals, colors...
Maybe there are huge, breath taking blossoms or climbing vines with sweet little white flowers on the stone wall that marks the entrance to the herb garden. Notice the green bushy herb growth of sage, lemon-balm, lavender......  Feel their energies, notice the aromas, take them fully in. Now bring yourself  and your attention to the center of the garden where we are all sharing this knowledge and wisdom from Mother Earth...........as woman's circles did generations ago.
**When you work with herbs for heath, healing, casting or simply working in your own garden, bring this lovely meditation back into your awareness & you will find a much more memorable & fulfilling experience.
First I'd like to work with Sage, as it is used by so many for so many different purposes....
Cooking with Sage.... many of us use Sage in our everyday cooking; soups, chicken, stuffing, etc... Used with thyme, garlic, onion & a bit of olive oil, we have a nice base for just about any meat or poultry entree; But did you realize that medicinally Sage (sometimes referred to as Clary Sage) aids in; digestion, clearing up congestion, sore throats (drank as a tea),  lowering blood sugar in Diabetic patients, and in recent studies by England scientist at Newcastle & Northumbria has linked Sage extract oil (in capsule form) to have an impressive impact on memory function. They have learned that it forms a barrier around and protects key chemicals in the brain that are usually destroyed by Alzheimer's disease.  Although the study is still on going, it has wonderful potential of helping so many that are afflicted by Alzheimer or may be a preventative aid for those that may have concerns of developing it.
I have always taught my children "you are what you eat", but this really takes it a step further in eating to protect ourselves from disease, breakdown of the physical body & longevity to our lives! We have been given everything we need by Mother Earth for nurturing, growth, health & healing if we just listen to her & learn from her! The old ways, the things our Grandmothers & Great-Grandmother knew & somewhere, unfortunately, were lost over the years of thinking we didn't need these traditions and knowledge. Let's get back to our roots and share them here and with our loved ones, that they may benefit from this knowledge now and in their future!
Recipes, experiences, experiments & ideas....all welcome here!! I really look forward to hearing from everyone!
Blessings!!
  1. Alfalfa.......
    A flowering herb with spiraling seedpods...
    Loaded with calcium, magnesium, and potassium...the leaves of this herb also contain vitamins A, D, E and essential amino acids.
    So what does this mean for us in our daily diet?..
    Alfalfa can be added to our daily diet in our cooking, salads, soups & teas or can be found in capsule/pill form. It is know to aid in the detoxification process, helps with lowering blood pressure and breaking down cancer cells. Alfalfa is also beneficial for curing athletes foot, eczema, burns & infections in a soak, scrub or light paste to the infected area.
    ***Warning...expecting women, nursing moms or women who suffer from PMS should not ingest alfalfa. People with an autoimmune disease or those taking anticoagulants should avoid taking alfalfa as well.****
    Never just stop taking your medications to switch to herbal medicines, there is a process of adjustments & some medications your body is used to taking may have a negative reaction to just stopping. so... ALWAYS consult with your doctor about starting a herbal or holistic approach to your health care! Don't be to concerned about their reaction; most of our Doctors today are very supportive in natural health and are more than willing to support you with your decisions for "alternative" health care.
    Blessings,
    Pennie
