What Is Meditation..Really???

According to Webster’s Dictionary(2002), it is described as “the act of meditating; serious contemplation” or “to dwell on a particular thought.”
Now I don’t think Webster had the idea of one dwelling on something until their head pops, but a bit softer focus maybe- to help clear the mind; then go back to what ever may be stressing, so that a healthy decision can be made.
In Metaphysics it is considered a way to spiritually go “home.” Some feel it’s like a dream state and others say it’s seems like an outer body experience.
There’s chanting (like singing), drumming, visual (staring at a candle flame or mentally focusing on a color), or even walking & just being one with your surroundings or nature. There are many different ways to meditate & NONE of them are wrong. It is quite acceptable to play with many different ideas to find one that works best for yourself.
The end result should be peace, clarity & a calmness that stays with you through out the day; if done in the morning. When done at bed time, I find that I sleep much more soundly & wake feeling fully rested & have all the energy needed for the day ahead!
I use a Chakra alignment meditation that starts with rooting(grounding) myself & work the energy all the way up the 7 main chakras to the crown(top of my head). Using colors and breathing techniques to cleanse and realign myself. By the time I get to the crown chakra I’m relaxed and comfortably drifting off. If anyone would like a full explanation of this, I’ll be happy to share.... I'll put it on the Chakra page.

What do you do for a meditation practice?

  1. I like to use guided meditations. During a silent meditation, I have a hard time focusing. My mind will just drift off and then I'm too distracted to continue. The voice in the guided meditation helps to keep me focused whether I am getting in tune with my body's functions or following a path to a waterfall.

  4. "Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back."

I came across this quote & had to share it with you! It's the second sentence that really made me think....we all have a tendency to try to know, understand & except others in our lives, but don't usually give ourselves that same respect. Take the time today to see what is pushing you forward &/or may be holding you back. It's only when we see these things clearly, can we make any necessary changes.

    Blessings!
